Fri, Aug 03, 2018 7:00 PM – Fri, Aug 03, 2018 10:00 PM Near West Rara + Big Tent

Where: Haughville Branch – The Indianapolis Public Library

Haughville Branch - The Indianapolis Public Library 2121 W. Michigan Street Indianapolis, Indiana 46222

Inspired by our partners and time in Haiti & with support from the Arts Council of Indianapolis, Indiana Arts Commission, Reconnecting to Our Waterways and Indianapolis Public Library we’re bring the Rara to Indianapolis. Rara is a Haitian street band that grows and evolves as it moves through the city playing traditional instruments. Rara’s exist to celebrate the joy of living and unite communities to dance and sing away their troubles.

The Near West Rara will start in WeCare and will touch each Near West neighborhood. We’ll have a band on a portable stage that plays a short set in each neighborhood. When the band wraps up, we encourage that neighborhood to travel with us to the next (just like a Haitian rara). It will culminate on West Michigan Street with Big Tent, an interactive video installation, and more music!

Join us for a celebration of our neighborhoods, great music, and appreciation for our partners in Haiti. Each Near West neighborhood will host their own small party on the route. Below are the locations are approximate times the band, Palace, will play at each location.

7PM WeCare: Rosalie Cook Park, 16 S Addition Street
7:40PM Hawthorne: 309 N Tremont St
8:15PM Haughville: Haughville Park, 2444 W Michigan Street
8:45PM Stringtown (and Big Tent): 2240 W Michigan Street
