About Aqueous:

Listen | Watch Video

After forming in Buffalo in 2006, Aqueous (pronounced “ay-kwee-us”) has earned a reputation as one of the most promising improvisational rock acts in the country. Best known for their “groove rock” stylings, guitarist Mike Gantzer, guitarist/keyboardist David Loss, bassist Evan McPhaden, and drummer Rob Houk have developed a unique sound characterized by meticulous compositions and rich exploratory jams that easily transition from laidback, in-the-pocket grooves to furious, high-intensity peaks. Composed of longtime friends, over the years, Aqueous’ members have developed near-psychic abilities with one another, enabling them to stretch each song while maintaining a staggering degree of precision. In a live setting, the group’s undeniable technical prowess truly shines, making for dynamic performances that bring fans back night after night.

Whether they’re headlining and selling out venues across the U.S. or performing stand-out sets at notable events like Summer Camp, The Peach Music Festival, Jam Cruise, and Suwannee Hulaween, it’s clear that fans across the country are clamoring to hear more from the Buffalo-based four-piece. With the hype around the group growing, Aqueous is making a huge breakout as the project enters its second decade of existence. Do yourself a favor, and discover firsthand what the buzz is all about.

Fri
Fri, Oct 18, 2019 9:00 PM - Sat, Oct 19, 2019 3:00 AM @ The Mousetrap Bar and Grill

The New mastersounds wsg/ Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal

We’ve really gone and done it now. The biggest act we’ve had at The Mousetrap in quite a while. This is sure to be a legendary night.

FRIDAY OCTOBER 18TH, 2019
21+

THE NEW MASTERSOUNDS – In the late 1990’s, guitarist and producer Eddie Roberts was promoting a clubnight in Leeds called “The Cooker.” When The Cooker moved into a new venue with a second floor in 1999, there was space and the opportunity to put a liveband together to complement the DJ sets. Simon Allen and Eddie had previously played together as The Mastersounds, though with a different bassist and no organ. Through friends and the intimate nature of the Leeds music scene, Pete Shand and Bob Birch were added on bass and Hammond respectively, and The New Mastersounds were born. Though it was raw, and more of a boogaloo sound at first, it was powerful from the start. Their first rehearsal was hot enough for Blow it Hard Records to release on two limited-edition 7” singles in 2000. Fast-forward 19 years, and the band’s recorded catalogue boasts 24 more 7”singles, 13 studio albums, 3 live albums, 1 remix album and 3 compilation albums, released variously in UK, Japan, and USA – where they continue to tour extensively. Joe Tatton, another veteran of the Leeds scene, joined back in 2007, replacing Bob Birch on organ and piano. As a band, and as individuals, they have collaborated with an impressive array of musicians, DJs and producers, including: Lou Donaldson, Corinne Bailey Rae, Quantic, Carleen Anderson, Keb Darge, Kenny Dope, Mr Scruff, LSK, Lack of Afro, Page McConnell, Grace Potter, Karl Denson, Melvin Sparks, Idris Muhammad, Fred Wesley, Pee-Wee Ellis, Maceo Parker, Bernard Purdie, George Porter Jr, Zigaboo Modeliste, Art Neville, Ernest Ranglin. During a 2018 US tour, a sit-in by Atlanta-based vocalist Lamar Williams Jr. turned heads, and the fit with NMS was so right that they pledged to make a record together. The resulting album was written and recorded in Denver, CO in December of that year and will be released in Fall 2019 on Eddie Roberts’ own Color Red label. As an example of the respect this band commands, Peter Wermelinger – DJ,collector, and author of the crate-diggers’ bible The Funky & Groovy Music Lexicon- places the 2001 NMS track ‘Turn This Thing Around’ in his all-time top-ten tunes, along with the likes of Eddie Harris, Funkadelic, and Herbie Hancock. The New Mastersounds are at the very top of an elite selection of acts that bring the true soul out of funk.

Josh Hoyer and Soul Colossal is a powerfully authentic & original Soul/Funk band whose mission is to empower and encourage people to fight the good fight.

Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal’s combination of soul, funk and R&B is in a word, electric. Best displayed in their high-energy live show, the blend of Hoyer’s honest lyrics and his soulful (sometimes in-your-face) vocals merge with his top-notch band to create an undeniable chemistry.

Hoyer formed Josh Hoyer and Soul Colossal in 2012 in famed blues town Lincoln, Nebraska. The award-winning six-piece band includes some of the area’s most revered and accomplished musicians. Inspired by Stax, Motown, New Orleans, Philly and San Francisco, the band continuously crosses musical boundaries both in style and era, and joins forces each show with a common goal – to have the crowd dancing so much they forget even their smallest troubles.

The magic of their live show caught the attention of producer Ken Coomer (Wilco, Uncle Tupelo), who joined with the band to record their third full-length album. Their most ambitious project to date, Running From Love was recorded at Nashville’s historic Sound Emporium, and once again features Hoyer’s trademark vocals and the band’s signature groove. The album was released on April 8, 2016, on Silver Street Records, and is available on vinyl, CD and digital formats.

“If James Brown and Otis Redding had a love child, it would be Josh Hoyer. The Lincoln, Nebraska, soul shouter, and his band of merry soulsters, Soul Colossal, deliver a sound so big, so funky, so wring-the-sweat-out-of-you energetic that it reaches through the speakers and shakes you until you start moving to its groove.” – No Depression

Sat
Sat, Oct 05, 2019 8:00 PM - Sat, Oct 05, 2019 10:00 PM @ Indy Convergence

Indy Convergence’s newest initiative is mobile, non-invasive, arts programming along the shores of the White River. A Rising Tide’s first season will feature five interdisciplinary, collaborative performances this summer. Each performance will be an unexpected adventure employing an all-terrain stage or floating stage to bring Indy audiences to the banks of the White River.

SHOWS:
-June 20, 6pm Tony Ducan, internationally renowned hoop dancer followed by a nature hike. Who knows, you might just run into some of Indianapolis’ most talented artists enjoying an impromptu theatrical and music jam session

-July 19, 8pm “Sweet Palace Bistro”, our debut performance on the floating stage. The Palace and Sweet Poison Victim will light up the night with their soul, rock, and world beats

–August 30, 8pm “Strings, Reeds and a Flicker in the Woods” Forward Motion will be joined by The Fonseca Theatre Company and local professional dancers for a live collaborative performance in the woods.

September 28, 2pm “Down to the River” an afternoon of Bluegrass and Gospel following the annual White River Alliance Dragon Boat Races.

-October 5, 8pm “UnNamed Productions” Kick off fall with a staged reading of a new horror-thriller under the bridge.

A Rising Tide is made possible through an initial grant from the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust White River Fund and Reconnecting to Our Waterways, with additional support by the Arts Council and the City of Indianapolis. Tickets are available https://indyconvergence.ticketspice.com/arisingtide or www.indyconvergence.org/art

Only 50 tickets per performance are available.

These are outdoor events that require some walking. Attendees should wear shoes appropriate for walking, bring a chair or blanket for seating and bug spray! Each event is in a different location along the river. Attendees will be notified by email and/or phone call about the exact location the week of the show. This is largely due to changing river levels that affect each playing space. Please send all questions to [email protected]
