Pork N’ Beans Brass Band
Indianapolis sports a great many bands specializing in a variety of musical genres, but finding New Orleans-style brass bands among them is rare, because there is really only one. But the funky sounds of the Big Easy have made it here by way of the Pork N’ Beans Brass Band, a group consisting of local musicians.

Tue, Feb 25, 2020 5:00 PM - Tue, Feb 25, 2020 7:00 PM @ Indianapolis Artsgarden

On Tuesday, February 25, IndyHub, Arts Council of Indianapolis and The Exchange – Indianapolis Urban League have teamed up to showcase two local artists, Manon Voice and Carrington Clinton in one of Indy’s most extraordinary public spaces, The Indianapolis Artsgarden.

The event will include artists’ tiny-talks moderated by Rishard Allen, who just happens to be an IndyHub Board Member, 1828 Project Alum and member of the team at the Arts Council of Indianapolis. And it wouldn’t be a Five to Seven without networking with a purpose – a portion of all beverage proceeds from Sun King Brewery, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, and Circle Kombucha will support local artists through Art & Soul: A Celebration of African American Art & Artists in Indiana.

Come alone or with friends, either way, you’ll meet great people all while supporting Indy’s art and music scene. Did we mention it’s free? RSVP today.

Don’t stress about driving. Our friends at Lyft are offering 15% off (2) rides to/from The Artsgarden using the code: 5TO7ARTS.

Join us for a pre- Brazilian Carnival party!

*** Due to the late-night Brazilian Carnaval, we will be clearing the house after Julie’s set ***
The JK kitchen team will be preparing national Brazilian favorites Feijoada & Moqueca + Housemade Caipirinhas
Take the easy side of Brazil in this pre-carnival Bossa Nova set. Julie Houston is a singer and flutist in both the jazz and classical genres. She has a music degree from the Univ. of Wisconsin-Madison and works regularly as a studio singer in Indianapolis and Chicago.

For the last several years Julie has been singing with various jazz and Brazilian groups. She has performed at the Indy Jazz Fest, the Broad Ripple Art Fair, the Chatterbox, the Jazz Kitchen, the Conrad Hilton, Rick’s Cafe Boatyard, the Keystone Grill, Brix Restaurant, San Giovese, and corporate and private functions. She has had the privilege to perform with many of Indianapolis’ finest jazz musicians including Claude Sifferlen, Steve Corn, Frank Smith, Rob Dixon, and many others. Julie’s voice has been described as smooth, smoky, and unaffected. Whether performing in a duo or with a big band Julie’s sound is sophisticated and swinging. Her repertoire focuses on jazz standards and Brazilian bossa nova but, if requested, she is happy to include acoustic pop covers. As a flutist, Julie adds versatility in her groups. Her lush flute sound and melodic improvisation add another aural dimension.

Ms. Houston is also a classical flautist. She plays most often with a flute/violin/cello trio. Over the years she has played for hundreds of weddings, church services, and private or corporate functions.
