The Indiana State Library was established in 1825 to provide library services to Indiana’s state governmental officials and employees. Since that time, its responsibilities have expanded to provide services to all citizens of Indiana, including special populations such as the blind and visually impaired. Additionally, the State Library collects and preserves all types of information about the state of Indiana, supports the development of the library profession, and strengthens services of all Indiana libraries.

Today, the Indiana State Library houses vast collections with over two million volumes and three million manuscripts, as well as thousands of maps, federal documents, microfilm, and more. Just as the Library of Congress serves as the historical repository for our nation, the State Library is responsible for collecting and preserving all types of information and data about Indiana. The State Library also houses two of the largest Indiana History and Genealogy collections in the nation.

Join us for our Lobby Day on Thursday, January 16th!

The 2020 General Assembly has started and it’s a short session this year. Our legislators will be packing it up and heading back home by early March. That leaves us very little time to reform redistricting before new maps are drawn in 2021.

TAKE ACTION
We hit the ground running on the first day of session with a very successful State House press conference to announce two redistricting reform bills being introduced by Senator John Ruckelshaus (R- Indianapolis).

At the press conference we were joined by a bipartisan team of legislators who pledged their support for redistricting reform by signing the End Gerrymandering Pledge – a national effort championed by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Eric Holder.

It’s extremely important we stay visible on this issue and continue to put redistricting reform at the top of the legislative agenda. First, write a letter to your Indiana lawmakers, then join us next Thursday to rally in Indianapolis!

WHAT: Redistricting Reform Lobby Day
WHEN: Thursday, January 16, 10:30 a.m.
WHERE: Indiana State Library, 315 West Ohio Street, History Reference Room

After the briefing you are encouraged to walk across the street to the State House and talk to your legislators about reform. It’s always best to call them in advance and make an appointment – you can find their office telephone numbers at https://www.commoncause.org/find-your-representative/

Indiana’s Medical Cannabis Town Hall meeting, hosted by Indiana NORML & #HoosierAdvocate David Phipps.

(Please note: We created this event page now, in order to begin spreading the word. However, we will be adding several more guest speakers in the very near future!)

As you may have already noticed, Indiana is making major progress in regards to the medical cannabis legalization issue. Change is coming!

This upcoming Medical Cannabis Town Hall Meeting will be a direct reflection of the progress we’ve all made together.
We will have guest speakers including state representative Jim Lucas, state senator Karen Tallian, state representative Sue Errington, as well as other state legislators that will soon be announced! This will be huge!

We’ll have our friends from the American Legion Department of Indiana, Indiana Amvets & Indiana VFW, along with Hoosier patients that decided to illegally treat themselves with medical cannabis and had great success relieving their suffering. You’ll hear from college professors, healthcare professionals and advocates from across the state.

This town hall meeting is going to be the biggest medical cannabis related event in the history of our state, with Hoosiers coming in from all over, national press coverage and a message that will be heard! If this is an issue that you find important and you would like to be a part of this progress we’re all making, I ask that you join us at the Indiana State library on August 11th beginning at noon.

Together we stand, divided we fall.
