Anti-Racism for Wellness Leaders

Anti-Racism for Wellness Leaders

Sun, Jun 28, 2020 8:00 PM – Sun, Jun 28, 2020 9:30 PM Anti-Racism for Wellness Leaders

Online Event

Regardless of your identities or job title, you know that anti-racism is a non-negotiable part of your wellness business going forward…even if you’re not yet entirely sure what that means.

But not all of us have the context, skills, and community support to do this fierce, long-term work without causing more harm in the process.

So how can wellness leaders like yoga teachers, studio owners, life coaches, meditation instructors, and healers do whatever they can to stop replicating white supremacy in their work and spaces?

How can we make wellness actively anti-racist, from the way we interact with students and employees to our policies and procedures to our offerings and programs?

This is where we can help!

We’re Charlie Redd – owner of Haven Yoga Studio, yoga teacher, and longtime activist – and Lauren Roberts – political coach, yoga teacher, and community organizer – and we’re offering Anti-Racism for Wellness Leaders, a 6-month virtual course for wellness pros who want to embody anti-racist leadership in their work and spaces.

We’re offering our combined two decades of experience facilitating social justice work in this way because we believe that wellness leaders are uniquely positioned to create deep, lasting change in their communities during this urgent moment for cultural and political revolution.

Here’s what you’ll get:
*Six monthly live virtual group sessions on different topics
*One individual coaching session with Charlie and Lauren
*Suggested readings and resources
*Virtual community forum (NOT another Facebook group!)
*Email support from Charlie and Lauren

In our six monthly group sessions, we’ll learn about…
*A systems framework for understanding white supremacy, racism, and how they show up in the wellness industry and its leadership,
*How we each uphold toxic systems that perpetuate harm against BIPOC, but in different ways depending on our identities and proximity to power and privilege,
*How to confront and dismantle white supremacy within ourselves – whether as a BIPOC who has internalized it or as a white person who has benefited from and been blind to it,
*Building strong, trusting relationships across different identities and backgrounds,
*Harm-reduction strategies as you implement anti-racist practices into your wellness business, offerings, and/or space, and
*Sustaining an anti-racist culture in your work as a wellness leader.

Below are the monthly session dates and times. In the application, we ask if you have scheduling conflicts because ideally we want students to attend each session, though we’d encourage you to apply anyway, even if you might have scheduling challenges.

June 28, 8:00pm – 9:30pm EST
July 26, 8:00pm – 9:30pm EST
August 23, 8:00pm – 9:30pm EST
September 27, 8:00pm – 9:30pm EST
October 25, 8:00pm – 9:30pm EST
November 15, 8:00pm – 10:00pm EST

Click the link to apply! We kick things off on 6/28.
https://havenyogaindy.com/events/2020/6/28/anti-racism-for-wellness-leaders
(Note: While anti-racism work is ultimately white people’s responsibility, we will be centering and affirming BIPOC’s experiences in this space. People of all identities are welcome to apply.)
