Cece Winans

Cece Winans

Where: The Howard L. Schrott Center for the Arts | Butler Arts Center

The Howard L. Schrott Center for the Arts | Butler Arts Center 4602 Sunset Avenue Indianapolis, Indiana 46208

The best-selling and most-awarded female gospel artist of all time, CeCe Winans has long since cemented her status as one of the most accomplished and celebrated women in modern music history. It’d be easy to look back and rest on such illustrious laurels, but Winans has always had her eyes fixed firmly on the future, so it should come as little surprise that she jumped at the opportunity when her son, Alvin Love III, proposed she record the generation-bridging new album ‘Let Them Fall In Love.’ Her first in nearly a decade, the record finds Winans returning to the studio with gusto, working for roughly three years to craft her most confident, adventurous collection yet

The Low Heart Rate Tour–Isaac Levine ft Dr. Ruby

The Low Heart Rate Tour--Isaac Levine ft Dr. Ruby

Fri, Nov 08, 2019 6:00 PM – Fri, Nov 08, 2019 9:30 PM The Low Heart Rate Tour–Isaac Levine ft Dr. Ruby

This event will feature Isaac Levine & Dr. Ruby of Ypsilanti, MI with local bands Business Dolls and Cin Rose!

For this tour, Isaac has created a genre called “low heart rate” in which the band plays to the rhythm of a heart rate monitor, one chord per beat. This is slow slow music that attempts to channel the lyrical stylings of the late great David Berman and completely misses the mark. He will be joined on bass, and vocals by the incomparable Dr. Ruby (the lead singer of the Ypsilanti-based quartet Electric Blanket) to create a 30-minute set that assists crowds in untangling the airplanes that are caught in their dreadlocks and unwinding to a bath of pulsating truisms.

“Together they fill the airwaves with songs that would make Milton Friedman blush.”
Kate De Fuccio, Creative Director of AM1700, Ypsilanti, MI

“A lot of the sounds were almost childlike in a mildly creepy way, yet the oddities were perplexing and charming. The lyrics were simple yet extremely clever,”
Bridget Baral, The Lawrentian, Appleton, WI

“The confusion stayed through the second listen. And the third. And it’s continued unabated through subsequent spins. But I keep listening, and listening, and listening, which is a testament to the puzzling uniqueness.”
Ann Arbor Pulp

Business Dolls: You didn’t know it was Business time, did ya? Garage sensibilities coupled with delicate, forward melodies. Paperwork is due on Tuesday.

Cin Rose: Indianapolis writer and noise artist who’s first solo project is described as flirtatious noise with erotic and esoteric poems.

Roberts Park Methodist Episcopal Church (Currently Roberts Park United Methodist Church) was dedicated on August 27, 1876, making us one of the oldest churches remaining in downtown Indianapolis. Diedrich A. Bohlen, a German-born architect who immigrated to Indianapolis in the 1850s, designed this early example of Romanesque Revival architecture. Roberts Park is considered one of Bohlen’s major works. Constructed of Indiana limestone at Delaware and Vermont Streets, Roberts Park has a rectangular plan and includes a bell tower on the southwest corner. Roberts park is known for its interior woodwork, especially a pair of black-walnut staircases leading to galleries (balconies) surrounding the interior of three sides of its large sanctuary. The church was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 19, 1982.

The Roberts Park Methodist church originates from the first Methodist congregation organized in Indianapolis in 1822. After the congregation divided into two groups in 1842, one group established Roberts Chapel at Market and Pennsylvania Streets in 1843. Following the American Civil War, the congregation decided to build a new church at our present-day site at Delaware and Vermont Streets. We are named in honor of Methodist bishop Robert R. Roberts and its park-like location. Construction on the new building began in 1869, but due to financial limitations, it was not completely finished until 1876.
