Fri, Dec 06, 2019 6:00 PM – Fri, Dec 06, 2019 10:00 PM Do Millennials Still Like Pink? artist reception/open studios

Where: Harrison Center Harrison Center 1505 N Delaware St Indianapolis, Indiana 46202

It’s been several years since the phrase “Millennial Pink” first appeared and on Friday, December 6, from 6 to 10pm the Harrison Center asks the question, Do Millennials Still Like Pink? This year’s color-themed holiday group show features blushing work from dozens of local (Millennials and nonmillennial) artists in the Harrison Gallery and Gallery Annex.

Speck Gallery features Life in the Pond, work by Karen Holtzclaw. “I paint for the joy of self-expression and love of life by telling stories between creatures that emerge from my imagination to contract a story or stories within a seemingly serene pond environment. Although there may be several stories within a piece, the theme I want to convey and for the viewers to feel is the beauty and power of love and devotion.”

Context, work by Katie Pourcho will be featured in Hank & Dolly’s Gallery. Pourcho, an artist and art educator, explains that when viewing art in galleries and museums, there can be an indifference because of a disconnection from the context in which the work was created. Both the art she views and the art she creates have been enriched recently through travel and experiencing different cultures on a deeper level.

The INDIEana Handicraft Exchange Winter Show fills the gymnasium and Underground with their juried show of modern craft vendors just in time for holiday shopping.

Also in the Underground Gallery, Herron School of Art + Design students Laura Pendleton, Gem Williams and Nichole May will exhibit senior thesis work.

This season for the second year, the City Gallery is transformed into a holiday pop up shop filled with work from our own Harrison Center studio artists. The shop opens on First Friday, but is also open Monday through Friday from 9 to 5 throughout the month for holiday shoppers’ convenience.

In the sanctuary, the women of the Choral Artisans perform Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols, and Redeemer Presbyterian ensemble performs holiday music.

First Friday attendees can grab a complimentary coffee in the courtyard, then head around the building for the 5th Annual Holiday Window Tour. Artists have transformed the 22 ground level windows with winter-themed vignettes. The holiday windows can be viewed through January 6.

The Harrison Center is home to 30+ artists whose studios are open in December. This month is the final open studio night of 2019 and guests can wander the building and meet the makers who call the Harrison Center home.

December exhibits hang through December 27.

With support from: Huntington National Bank, the Arts Council of Indianapolis, the Indiana Arts Commission, Christel DeHaan Family Foundation, Allen Whitehill Clowes Foundation, the Indianapolis Foundation, Sun King Brewery, and Matinee Creative.
