Welcome to the 16th Annual Great Lakes Bioneers Detroit Conference!

Great Lakes Bioneers Detroit in partnership with University of Detroit Mercy offers an annual conference that provides a platform for community members to learn, network and highlight innovative approaches to environmental, economic and social challenges. The Local Programming Committee has selected “One Earth Community” as the Conference theme. Our focus is on promoting a sustainable, racially-equitable, inclusive community that fosters life-giving relationships, nurtures connections, and celebrates solutions for restoring and healing Earth.

One Earth Community is an intentionally broad theme as we seek diverse voices and participation in a conference that considers solutions to the many challenges facing our Earth Community. We see this conference as an opportunity for the community to share experiences and strategies to ensure we humans are a positive force for the earth community by addressing the critical issues such as environmental degradation, systemic racism, and health disparities.

We hope that by attending, you will be able to explore the above topics, develop skills and become motivated to engage in action for the betterment of our One Earth Community.

We offer Tours, Youth Learnshops and Adult Learnshops on Friday October 15. Youth Learnshops are intended for ages 12-18, Middle and High School. On Saturday October 16, we will offer morning and afternoon Adult Learnshops. The conference opens and closes with land acknowledgment ceremonies led by Native American community representatives including Ponoko Walker. Tours are all within the City of Detroit. Two tours are walking tours in areas adjacent to our campus. For the other three tours, buses will be provided. Tours will take 2 1/2 hours. After lunch on Friday, there will be learnshops for both Adults and youth. Throughout Friday and Saturday you will have access to local vendor and exhibitor tables who will share with you products and information related to the GLBD themes and mission. Delicious lunches and snacks will be provided by Chef Phil Jones and his Farmacy Foods organization, relying on local organic produce.

Sincerely,

Gail Presbey
